Beating Burnout Series (A.k.a. How To Be A Full-Time Badass): 01 - What & Why?

Let me just get this party started saying that in addition to simply being a contributor, hand model, co-HBIC and fanboy for Urban Vitals, I also work as a badass creative director/designer in an industry that's regularly ranked as one most stressful (more about that later). This is valuable to note because my work is my world - and I say this proudly and with zero regard for critics (weak people) touting the importance of work-life balance. Fairy-tales, I say.

I genuinely love my work because who I am personally closely plays into what I do. It's this blending of life and work, however, which can and has at times brought about the cold hard fact of burnout.

It's my belief anything, which demands a substantial and continual investment of your time and energy, brings about burnout - whether it is work, family, fitness, prescription drug problems, etc.

Without the right toolkit for recovery, burnout is a horrific concept for someone like me because of the debilitating effect it could have and has had on my life (burnout makes me fat). It's also something I've had to witness colleagues and friends battle. So it seems fitting that a personal exercise in defining the triggers of and solutions to burnout are going to be worth sharing. You're welcome.

Over the next few posts in this series, I'll address triggers of burnout and ninja warrior moves (solutions) for overcoming them. I'll also add a mix of my own personal experiences slightly embellished for dramatic effect and exaggerated self-importance.

Ok, let's get this going

What is Burnout and why is it bad?

Burnout is sort of a bad case of diarrhea; you can't always be readied for it, but you definitely know when it hits - leaving you drained, hopeless and less of who you were before. It's that general malaise that has you pulling the covers across your head instead of leaping up and about. It's the sudden urge to quit this bitch and head to the airport instead of back to the office. It's the no-energy, no-motivation, no-dreams approach - a complete mind f#ck. It's awful and it's something I've discovered a lot of people battle at some point in your life.

For the urban warrior, life demands an endless influx of motivation and energy (both physical and mental). The pain of burnout is obvious: You just can't get motivated. You feel old, ineffective, hopeless and oftentimes just wanna cut a bitch. The thought of moving at all, let alone moving forward, requires way too much effort. This is the reason burnout makes me fat.

Well I say burnout is a waste of time and energy! While you're suffering, you could be living an amazing, magical life.

You've likely experienced burnout at some moment because you're wasting time looking over this post; maybe it was related to work, school, a relationship, that trick you regularly have over or the strict diet of flavored steam and ice chips (nobody likes a fatty). Sometimes it creeps up, building over time, while other times it jumps out of the blue and donkey punches the hell out of you. One day it's all rainbows and unicorns; the next, you're contemplating why you ever committed so much time and energy when you could just give it all up and move to Hawaii - that is before you got burnout on that too.

Burnout doesn't always derive from the same source, either. It can come from working hard and needing a break, from lack of challenge or in my experience, stupid people doing stupid shit that gets in your way. That means addressing burnout is going to require some analysis. You might need a good, long rest, or you might need a kick in the ass. You might need a stronger focus on your targets, or you may need a completely new target.

With all these variables, you may wonder how there can be one report or article on the topic of burnout and ways to cure it.

Well, there isn't one - probably due to the person who was writing it got burnout and is in Hawaii with a hotter, younger trick. That's why in this short series we're going to tackle the five most popular sources of burnout and five solutions for getting all Steven Segal on it. Whether you're finished with your life as a whole, or you want to change your workout routine, or you need a new job, there will be some solutions for everyone. Remember, you may not see yourself in every situation, but if you're impacted by burnout, you'll definitely find some tips for revving your engine and get you motivated.

Studying Tips: Two Tips That Give You More Free Time

Pop quiz: What is your most valuable non-renewable resource? What is the one thing that you spend all day long every day and yet you can never get any more of it? The answer of course is your time. Do you know anyone that can create more time? I didn't think so (but I was hoping you might!)

But more important than understanding that time is your most important resource is knowing that there are no guarantees about how much time you have left. I don't mean to shock you, but you have no idea if you have 50 years left or 50 seconds left. There is no way you can predict how much time you have left. Sure, you can make a guess. But that's all it is - a guess. Unfortunately, most people have no idea how valuable their time is and they spend it like it will never end! Everything they want to achieve will happen "one day" or "at some point".

But how can this be? The only thing you really have in life is your time. You can get more money or more stuff but your amount of time never stops getting smaller and smaller. Look, it's ticking away right now. Goodbye time! Thanks for coming. Can you see that your time is not to be wasted?

So how do you spend your time? Have you been wasting it? Or do you spend your time wisely? Whilst we now know we can't get more time, we can always save time can't we? We can work faster or we can work smarter and by doing these things we can save time. When we save time we create more free time. We all like free time don't we?

We all love free time don't we? Free time is time free of any outside obligation. It's all yours to do with as you please. Ideally, your entire day (every day) would be free time. That would be time nirvana! But that's a discussion for another day. You want more free time so that you can spend more time doing whatever you want to do (like play video games or sit on the internet for 6 hours straight for no reason). So let's look at two simple strategies that you can use straight away to create more free time.

Number one: Four or five 15-minute breaks from doing work equals an hour or more of free time every day. If you do that five days a week that's five or so more hours of free time every week. Five hours a week equals 250 hours a year! What could you do in 250 hours of free time? That's a lot of time to do whatever you love doing.

Number two: Be aware of your dead time and use it wisely. What's dead time you may ask? Dead time is when you are not doing anything productive but it is also not really free time. For example, you may be out and about walking the dog, you might be riding a bike, you might be waiting for someone to pick you up after soccer practice, or you might be driving a car (these are merely examples). Dead time is any time that isn't really used for anything at all - so start using this time to get ahead.

Maybe you can make a recording of the notes you must memorize and you can listen to them during these times? Maybe you have some flash cards you made and can use the time to look over them? Maybe you have an oral examination coming up and can practice your speech? Maybe you can just read through your text book. The point is take your dead time and make it time well spent. Fifteen minutes spent studying whilst on your way home from school is fifteen minutes you don't have to do that night.

It's time to start valuing your time more than you ever have before. Remember, your time is always coming to an end. You just don't know when that end point is. I hope for you that it's still 100 years away. But there's a good chance it's less than that. Much less! So make every minute count. Save as much time as you can and spend your life doing something meaningful to you. Good luck.

1. Create goals for yourself. Write down your goals and include everything you want to achieve this year and all the years that follow. Then look at your goals every day so that you know them off by heart. If you don't know what you want you will never be motivated to take action!

2. Move all obstacles that are stopping you achieve your goals. Don't allow time-wasters to suck the life out of you. Get off the X-Box. Get off Facebook. Turn off the TV. You can do this. Know what you want and then get it!

3. Identify the actions you need to take. It's one thing to write out your goals. It's another things altogether to understand what it will take to make them happen. Figure out what the actions are that make up your goals. What will take you from where you are now to where you want to go?

4. Do something! Once you know which actions are your most important actions, take some action! Anyone can make a plan. Anyone can come up with a brilliant idea. Anyone can think of solutions. It's the doing that makes the difference. So take action. Right now! Go, go, go, go, and go. Now.

5. Visualize your achievements. The best part about visualization is that you can do it any time. You can do it during class, you can do it on the train, you can do it lying in bed, or you can do it at your weekend job. Imagine what you are going to achieve and how it will happen. Do this every day.

6. Create affirmations and then read them every day. Write down whatever you need to tell yourself each day to get yourself pumped up, grateful for life and ready to rock. Then make sure you can fit it into your school bag, wallet or purse so that you can read it whenever you want some inspiration.

7. Stretch and breathe. Don't just breathe to live, breathe to relax! Deep breaths are great for keeping your cool and getting the energy flowing. Stretching is great for getting the blood flowing and getting your muscles active. So breathe deeply whenever you think of it and stretch like a madman whenever you have a chance!

8. Read and watch. Find someone (or many people!) you want to be like. Then read their books and watch their YouTube videos. Engage with them in any way you can. Listen to them. Do what they do. You don't need to reinvent the wheel to be a success, just do as successful people do. That's being smart.

9. Love every minute. There is no point "existing". You need to "live". What does it mean to live? It means loving what you're doing - at all times. Now, it's hard to get excited about school or work each day, there is no question about that, but your life is short and you need to enjoy it. You need to make each day count. Love your life.

10. Associate with people that are successful. If you spend time with blobs you will become a blob too. You need to surround yourself with people that want more from life. Surround yourself with people that have big dreams and even bigger motivation levels. They will drag you with them and help take you where you really want to go.

11. Drink your way to success! No not booze - water! Drink as much water as you can muster, mister. Eight glasses a day is a good guide. Why? Well, your brain is 75% water. Your blood is 90% water. The body will shut down within days without water. Water prevents illness and disease. Water turns the food you eat into energy. Need we say more? Drink up!

12. Eat smaller means and eat them more often. We all like to eat don't we? Well, most people do anyway. You only have to look around to see how much the world loves eating. But three meals a day isn't quite right. Instead, have 6 meals a day and make them smaller - and healthier. Your body will continually burn the food and won't store it as fat. You're also less likely to become overweight or obese. More meals and less fat? Winning!

13. Reduce your consumption of the four fatal stimulants. Coffee, cigarettes, alcohol and sugar are a perfect storm - for illness and disease! If you want to die a young and painful death then knock yourself out. Most people don't really want that - but it doesn't mean they don't consume dangerous things. You wouldn't give cigarettes, coffee, alcohol or loads of sugar to your pet, so why do you consume them? Do you have more respect for your pet than yourself? Weird.

14. Tense and relax. When you tense all the muscles in your body and then let it go it really helps the body to unwind and remain calm. So start using this whenever you're feeling anxious or stressed. Tense and relax. Tense and relax. Ah! Feels good doesn't it?

You have the power to make your life whatever you want it to be. But it truly is up to you. You must not allow others or circumstances to prevent you from doing whatever it is you want to do. Take massive action every day and kick some studying butt! Good luck.

How To Get Better Grades - How To Quickly Achieve Your Goals

The first rule of goal setting is defining what you want to achieve. Simple right? The second rule is understanding why you want to achieve it. It's not enough to simply define the goal, you must also be really dedicated to the "why" part of it as well. If you're not, nothing will happen. Don't believe me? Well ask yourself, why would you passionately pursue something if you don't know why you're doing it?

Once you have established the "what" and the "why", you can move to the next step - the "who". As in, who do you need to be to make sure that goal happens? What sort of actions do you need to take? How will you know if you are really on track or if you are just kidding yourself? Are you becoming the person you need to become to achieve the goal? Or are you just hoping that you can be exactly as you are now and still achieve the goal?

In other words, do you improve yourself each day in order to become the person you need to be in order to achieve the goal you want to achieve - or do you change nothing and do nothing and just hope everything will somehow work out for the best? Remember, be honest!

People love events but people don't like processes. Unfortunately, the process is the most important part of achieving any goal. Think about it. We love to see the pounds just melting away (the event), but we don't like to eat healthily and exercise strenuously each day (the process). We love to receive a great score on a test (the event), but we don't like all the homework and study that is required to make it happen (the process). As I said, people love events but people don't like processes.

Getting good grades is hard work. Being fit and healthy is hard work. Being a great musician is hard work. The process of achievement always weeds out the weak - and unfortunately it doesn't always reward the strong.

However, for those of us who make a choice to go through the process, the events are extra sweet. A top grade, getting into College, winning the Super Bowl, or running a four minute mile are all events that happened because the person made a decision and went through the process.

This is important when we consider setting our goals and seeking to achieve them. Obviously, if the event itself is the only reason we setting the goal then it makes sense that we are going to struggle through the process required to realize the goal. That's just common sense isn't it?

So, if you are going to set a goal, you really need to understand what process you are going to have to go through to achieve it and make sure you are committed to it. The event is secondary; the process is what you are really committing yourself to. You must ask yourself, "What actions will I have to take every day to go through the process? Who will I need to be to go through the process?" If you can't answer that, you won't be able to achieve the goal you have set.

Goal achievement isn't a result or magic or miracles (although many of us just wish it was that simple). It actually just comes back to understanding what you want, why you want it and who you need to be to make it happen. Once you have all that in mind, the process will take over and the event will take care of itself. But if you follow the trend and focus on the event, you can be sure you will struggle to reach it. There is no question that it is very hard to find the energy and drive required to get study done when you don't know how to motivate yourself to study. Motivation and passion go hand in hand, but it can be extremely difficult to get passionate about studying!

So instead of telling you that motivation should come easily to you, we are going to provide you with some wisdom that has been provided by students just like you. Here are five tips you can use to move your study forward - especially when you don't feel like studying!

Tip One. Become very aware of your thoughts. We have thousands of conscious thoughts every day. Thoughts such as "What's for breakfast?" or "I will never get this study or assignment done on time!" Thoughts such as these must be carefully monitored and controlled. Why? Well, if you think you can, you can. If you think you can't, you can't. It really is that simple. Start changing the way you think by replacing negative thoughts with positive ones. Use thoughts like "I can do this" or "I'm always making progress" or "I always get work done on time!" The more you say these things to yourself the more they will become ingrained in your psyche.

Tip Two. Visualize your awesomeness. It might seem corny but visualization is a great tool for getting motivated. Think about how good it feels when you hand in your homework or assignment on time. Or how great you feel when you get a top grade on your next test. Think first, act second.

Tip Three. Take small steps consistently. The demotivating part of most tasks is that they seem so huge and hard that it seems pointless even getting started. But that's the trap you must avoid. If you have to write a 1000 word essay, then start by writing just 50 words. That's only one paragraph. You don't have to write it all in one go you know! Break it down into parts. Your worry will only disappear when you take some action. So take some small regular action and remember that repetition is your friend.

Tip Four. Surround yourself with study buddies. If you can find others who are experiencing similar things to you there is no doubt it will help calm you down and see that you are not alone. But the best part is that study buddies will give you their own words of wisdom and tips about how to get the work done (not to mention hold you accountable for getting it done!) It is highly motivating when you team up with others and make a commitment to getting the task done.

Tip Five. The more you do the closer you are to the end. We've all been there. Work just seems to constantly pile up and no matter how much you get done there is always more work to do. But the thing to remember is that every day brings you closer to completion. When you hand in an assignment you have ticked a box. When you sit a test or exam you have ticked a box. There are only so many boxes you have to tick before your study days are over. Your life will not be like this forever. So start ticking boxes like crazy and before you know it they'll all be ticked!

It's incredible how someone can be brilliant in other highly complex subjects and have panic attacks when they have to learn another language. Below are a few ideas that could help.Learning another language is hard and feeling nervous about learning it is normal. It's like having to give a presentation about what you've learned every day. That's not expected in any other subjects. You are often given weeks or at least days to prepare to present in other circumstances. Learning a language is different in so many ways.

It's critically important to feel comfortable with the people around you, particularly when you are learning. Make sure you have a teacher who is supportive and helpful. If not, find a new one.Role playing is one of the most helpful things you can do to reduce your speaking anxiety. As I mentioned in item one, speaking a foreign language is like having to present constantly. When I have to give a presentation at work, I prepare extensively to help me feel more comfortable, including scripting and rehearsing it as many times as I can. The same steps can be applied to language. What are some common conversations that you have that you can script and rehearse?Practice is the key to all language acquisition, but you don't always have someone to practice with. Also, if you are suffering from anxiety, you may not have the nerve and motivation to practice with another person. A way to practice on your own is to narrate your activities. When you are getting dressed in the morning, try saying the steps out loud, like "I'm going to take a shower" and "I'm putting on my shirt".Sometimes identifying what triggers your anxiety can be a big step in controlling it. Try and keep a journal of when you feel anxious. Is it a certain person that makes you nervous? Is it a certain situation?What I am going to teach you here is the fact that there is a physical reason for our feeling frightened when put into a position to speak in public. That reason is our body's perception that speaking in front of others is a "threatening situation" that demands the over-creation of adrenalin. And it is the over-creation of adrenalin that gives us our symptoms of feeling frightened.

In medical terminologies, public speaking anxiety is referred to as "glossophobia." It is a very common reported type of social fears. It is actually normal that you will experience nervousness during your presentation or speech. However, in the case of a person with a Social Anxiety Disorder (SAD), your feeling of anxiety during public speaking will take out and control your life. You will worry too much a few weeks to months before the date of your speech or presentation. On the day of the presentation, you will suffer from intense physical symptoms of anxiety such as pounding heart, blushing, inability to breathe, and quivering voice. These symptoms result from the flight or fight response of your body. There is a sudden release of adrenaline that prepares you for a sudden threat of danger. At this moment, you will experience loss of body control.

Short-Term Treatments of Glossophobia.If this condition interferes in your life, it can be diagnosed as under the category of SAD. Fortunately, fear of public speaking can be managed easily. Short-term treatment includes cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT) and systematic desensitization. On the other hand, if you have a public speaking anxiety that causes you to experience significant distress, you need to ask a doctor for possible referrals to a psychologist. In addition to numerous traditional ,Many people feel very anxious when they are asked to speak publicly. Anxiety is a perfectly normal reaction to stressful situations, but for some, public speaking can cause more than just a fleeting anxiety attack. If you don't collect together the material about which you are going to speak, sort it all into a sensible well thought out order so that all the points you want to cover are included and then arrange that material in an understandable way, your speech will be a disaster. Without that preparation, your task on the day will be immeasurably more difficult.But with all that preparation behind you, your confidence in your own ability with regard to the accuracy of the information should be OK.Your next task, of course, is the delivery of the speech and your preparation for your delivery should be just as thorough as your preparation of the content of the speech.So, what are the ways in which you can prepare yourself for delivery of your speech?During your preparation, find time to practise the speech. Read it through several times and you'll get a feel for how it sounds. If you can, record the speech as you hope to deliver it and listen to the playback carefully. Note down anything which didn't sound quite right so that you can change it at the end.

About a week before the speech try to build up a positive image of yourself giving the speech really well. 'See' yourself standing confidently and relaxed in front of your audience. 'See' the audience listening intently to you and laughing naturally at your jokes. 'Listen' to the applause after the speech is finished. Do this several times a day for a week or so before the day of your speech.Now that you have done your preparation in the lead up to speech day, you can concentrate on helping yourself on the day.Relaxation techniques such as breathing deeply and slowly in and out as you are being introduced can be very good for putting your body at ease. Something else to try at the same time might be to tighten and slowly relax various muscle groups. Not necessarily in any order these might include; the thigh muscles, calf muscles, the muscles in your arms, shoulders and back. This should relieve any tension in your body so that you can concentrate on your delivery.

How many times have you heard someone talk and you feel lost? Once you know the material, you need to organize it in a coherent way. Ask yourself, what is the goal of my speech? Make sure you present your material in an organized way (beginning, middle and end). This process gives you a map that if lost, can help you find your way back. With practice, if you forget what you where saying will help you gather your thoughts and know where you were.

Once you have your game plan prepared, imagine yourself giving the speech. Visualization is a technique that helps you become familiar with the event. Imagine you are giving the speech in front of a big group. The more you practice the material and the more you see yourself doing it, the less anxious you will be. It is alright to have an error or two. Many people, as mentioned before, think that every word or every sentence must be perfect. Keep in mind that your audience does not know what you have planned for them. If you omit a word or sentence, they will not notice it.

It doesn't matter why we react as we do to speaking in public and it doesn't matter if we remember a particular incident that triggered our anxiety or not. Since our fear is not based on an actual threat to us, we need only eliminate the symptoms of that fear to gain back our self-confidence and function as if we don't have fear. Intellectually, we know there is nothing really to fear when we speak in public, but our bodies act as if there is and it's completely out of our control.Without the symptoms of fear we can speak in public in a more thoughtful and relaxed manner than we ever thought possible. And if we can speak in public in a relaxed manner, guess what - WE CAN SPEAK IN PUBLIC!! PERIOD Really, it's just that simple.The symptoms of fear of speaking in public are curable specifically at the time you're put in a position to speak in public by taking a doctor-prescribed, safe, inexpensive and non-addictive medication. As I will explain, this medication allows us to control the cause of our symptoms exactly at the time when they are getting out of control. Therefore, what I am going to teach you will help those of us who have to routinely give presentations for our careers, those who need to only give several speeches a lifetime for wedding toasts, funerals, and the like, as well as those in show business who must be relaxed and confident enough to focus on their performance.

Straight forward physical explanations for how you feel will get rid of unwanted emotional reactions. Try to think of or remember any effects that anxiety has on your body and think of the reasons for them.When you have finished your speech, enjoy the applause. Remember that applause and use it to counteract any negative thoughts you may have later. If, during the days after the speech you start to worry about it not being right or something, bring back the memory of your audience clapping appreciatively.Activities that can help to dispel anxiety include the following:Breathe in slowly and deeply, hold your breath for the count of 5 and then breathe out slowly. I have learned that there will be times where there will be a problem to solve among a group and people look to you for the answer because you have displayed leadership. Even though you might have no idea what the answer is, you will not show expressions that come off as "I can't do it." Sometimes you have to get uncomfortable to get comfortable and be put in a situation where people depend on your voice. you will that as a leader that in order to lead, you have to listen. A leader is not a single person giving orders. A leader makes the decision based on the groups' thoughts. A leader has to the catalyst; the person knows when to start the fire, but also to put it out.

It is important to be focused and effective. It is imperative that kids understand the meaning behind your philosophy. The type of environment we live is where the teacher, coach, or facilitator has to accurate in every lesson in order to achieve the goals set out for the group. Understand that everyone moves at different speeds and comfort levels. It is your job as the teacher to analysis the make-up of each student and develops the characteristics into a better individual.

Many of my clients are so happy to discover a greater awareness of their thoughts so that they can attract more of what they want, and less of what they don't want. It may sound simple to put this into action, and don't get me wrong, it can be, but it's very easy to slip back into old ways of thinking that you're used to.

For example, if you want to attract a relationship with the man or woman of your dreams, but you're constantly thinking about how lonely you are, or how no one is interested in you, then that's exactly what you're going to keep attracting. However, if you can become aware enough to think thoughts like "I am in the process of meeting my true love" or "I am attracting the perfect mate into my life", then you're going to attract that.

This is how the Law of Attraction works, remember everything is energy or "vibes" and has a frequency so the vibes you're transmitting are drawing the same vibes back to you. Similar to the example above except the energy that the universe is comprised of is responding to the energy you're radiating.Give off negative vibes and the universe will respond with equal negative vibes, give off positive vibes and the universe will respond with equal positive vibes.Remember these vibes are mostly transmitted and received on a subconscious level, the human mind truly is a remarkable tool with infinite potential once unleashed, where-ever the mind travels the body will surely follow.

It's stand up grappling and groundwork. With Krav Maga and its movements and ideas, they together make a very effective system. That's why I keep doing it, the cage fights, the grappling competitions and the training.

Tell Us About How You Feel Before A Competition? Good, I feel very... my heart races up! Weak, but strong at the same time... After all the Krav Maga I have done, I have trained myself to get into a very different mindset to what I have normally when I walk about my life. If I become threatened, it's like a switch that goes off: I go into, like, a kill mode. That's what I try and teach my students, how I feel when I get into a cage fight. I don't think, "I am going to have a competition here". I think, "I need to kill the guy in front of me. I need to finish him".How Do You Feel After A Competition? It depends if I win or lose. I haven't lost yet, so I don't know about that. I usually feel pretty good afterwards, pretty happy. Then again, sometimes I want to get back in and finish him because he is still walking. This, in my eyes, as a result of Krav Maga mentality, doesn't seem right. He shouldn't be able to get up.

How To Get Better Grades - Motivate Me To Study

Lack of motivation is the most common reason that things don't get done. If you've ever lacked the motivation to do something you know the feeling I'm talking about. The loss of interest, the tiredness, the boredom - it's all related to the feeling that you have "no motivation". But worse still is the feeling that you also don't know what to do about it. But there's no need to fret, it happens to everyone at some point!

Whilst a lack of motivation may not be your biggest challenge personally, it is one of the biggest challenges that students face as they try to find the strength of character to push through high school and College.

When you don't have the proper motivation to complete a task, the task can quickly become a painful and cumbersome chore - rather than a fairly straightforward process. Why?

Well, when you feel 'motivated', it's easy to stay focused over a long period of time and work diligently towards your goal. However, when you are not feeling 'motivated' you will have virtually zero focus and the chances you will even start the task are minuscule. Either that or it will require someone threatening you with something before you'll get started on your work (like a parent taking away your iPad or a teacher removing you from the class). That's not a great way to get motivated!

As a general rule, most people are operating on the base level of motivation - which is fear of negative consequences. What do I mean by this? Well, we act out of concern about what will happen if we don't act. For example, you may complete your homework because if you don't you will be grounded. You may strive to get an A on your Maths test because if you don't your average will drop which will impact your ability to get into University or College. It's not necessarily a "bad thing" but it's the way we are conditioned to behave.

If there were no consequence for not doing your homework, or not doing exercise, or not following the laws - what would happen? It would create chaos wouldn't it? Why would anyone do anything they didn't "feel like doing"?

Fear as a motivational tool is actually important. It creates order and maintains the norm. It allows a society to function properly. However, that doesn't mean it should be the reason you do whatever you do on a daily basis. You see, fear of consequences also leads to great resentment and suppression. So acting only out of fear is not the way to become truly motivated.

Whilst "existing" may work for you for a period of time (and for many people it works for their entire lives) it doesn't both work and lead to a positive approach to life. The motivation we seek to promote is one where you want to complete the tasks you do for positive reasons.

Real motivation is borne out of a possibility. A possibility of what may happen from taking a certain action. The possibility of what can be created. For example, when you ask a girl or guy you like for their phone number, you are living into a possibility. The possibility you may get to go out on a date with them! Sure, you may not succeed. You may get shut down. But so what? The power of living into a possibility drove you to take that action. If you act out of fear, you probably won't ask for the number or take any action and you'll just feel regret. Why? Because fear of negative consequences (like being embarrassed or laughed at) won the day. By living in fear you don't really live. By living in fear you don't feel the amazing power of real motivation.

The answer to finding motivation is actually simple. Whenever you are doing something and don't feel motivated simply ask yourself "What is the possibility here? What positive outcome is going to occur from this?" If you can't find a simple possibility (like I could learn something new, I could earn some money which I can spend on something important to me, I'm a step closer to something I really want to achieve) then you really aren't searching hard enough. The Law Of Attraction In Action

Some people are turned off by the whole "Law of Attraction," metaphysical, New Age thing and honestly, I can understand that. Personally, I love seeing the magic and wonder of life and enjoy seeing things as miraculous, but that's just me. So, when you see me referring to the Law of Attraction, what exactly am I talking about? Let's just break it down for a moment. Law of Attraction followers generally intend, visualize, focus, look for signs, act, think positively, manifest, and stay grateful. Sounds a little "different" with "intentions" and "manifestations." But to put that in other terms, you set goals, visualize (as an athlete does), watch for opportunities to reach those goals, act, have faith, and are thankful when it happens. Doesn't sound nearly as mystical, does it? Let me expand a bit step by step.

Imagine for a moment that you have a genie in a bottle, a secret potion or wand, that gives you the power to zap into manifestation more of what you wish for. The truth is, it doesn't take a genie in a bottle, a magic wand or a secret potion, although these are fun 'reminders' of the awesome power that we hold! We are Divine Beings!

The Bible says we are made "in the image of God" and that "what we sow we reap." This means we, like God, are creators! I've heard it said that God helps those who help themselves. We must learn how to help ourselves by co-creating, along with God, that which we desire by developing faith and applying focused thought. The best way to pray then is affirmatively, to visualize what we desire as if it is already in our experience, and to give thanks in advance, knowing that what we need and desire is available to us. To pray effectively, we pray affirmatively. A powerful prayer is one of gratitude. The more we count our blessings, the more blessings come to us. Our thoughts and prayers really do create our experiences!

The second step to deliberately attract success is to raise our vibration. We must always bear in mind that we do not get what we want but we get what we vibrate. We must therefore become a "vibrational match" to what we want in order to attract what we truly desire. One way to raise our vibration is to act as if we are already successful and start experiencing how we would be feeling if we had already achieved the success we wanted, how joyful we would feel and how happy and excited we would be as a result of achieving the success we desire. We can also use affirmations or use phrases like "I am very successful now." to raise our vibration to attract the success we desire in our life. We can also use visualization and see ourselves already experiencing the success we want.

The third step for deliberate attraction is to allow success to manifest in our life. Allowing is the absence of doubt and fear. If we have a strong desire to be successful but at the same time, we have strong doubts, we will never be able to attract what we want because we will be sending mixed signals in the universe. If, on the other hand, we have a strong desire and some doubts, we will attract success, but it will take a little longer. If we want to rapidly manifest success, we have to have a strong desire with no doubt at all.

The world is filled with evidence that supports our beliefs. In other words, optimists are confirmed in their optimism, and pessimists are confirmed in their habits of thought also. An optimist expects things to work out somehow, and because they give their attention to what they do want with expectancy, this is what manifests in their experience. The pessimist, on the other hand, generally also creates what they habitually worry about. When pessimists learn how to alter their expectations and beliefs, they too can more deliberately create what they are wanting in life.I truly believe that everything works towards our highest good, we just need to trust the Universal Laws working through us and use our experiences to expand our consciousness. Let's use the Law of Attraction to make the world a more joyful and loving place!

Both books offer very unique reasons to think positively and teach that we have the power to change our lives for the better.

We're All Made Up of the Same Energy.We're all taught in school that all matter, whether physical objects or living creatures, is made up of the same energy called atoms. The theory is that this same energy making up atoms is also a frequency created by our thoughts. Thoughts are magnetic energy and create a frequency similar to a radio or smart phone. As you go through your day thinking, your thoughts are sent out into the world and attract like things on the same frequency. Picture yourself as a human transmission tower emitting powerful waves of thoughts that are changing the dynamics of your life each and every day.

Karma also has reference to the law of attraction with their underlying belief that you'll eventually be revisited by that which you've sent out into the world.Everyone has heard the sayings "good karma" and "bad karma", this is where the sayings originate from, it was and still is their belief that if you are kind and compassionate you will be met with kindness and compassion and on the flip side if you have been unkind and shown little compassion then you'll equally be met with the same!

On the one hand, it's completely selfish to want more money so you can buy stuff for yourself and live an easy life. But on the other hand, and this is crucial, it's impossible to get that money unless you make people better off than they were before.So every single dollar that you have is a measure of how much better off you've made other people. The more money you have, the more people you've made better off. The more you've increased the net happiness of the world. Is that really selfish? Of course not.That's why Napoleon Hill, in "Think And Grow Rich," suggested that when doing any kind of money making visualizations, to visualize tons of people out there getting their needs met because of your actions. Because when lots of people out there are getting their needs met, you are getting paid.
